A 2025 Accessible Van Giveaway Recipient – Kim’s Story

In the midst of a frigid December afternoon, MDFF staff, some board members, and supporters gathered to make a difference in someone’s life. With more snow looming on the horizon, Kim Ball, her husband Greg, and her parents traveled from their home off the beaten path in Redkey, Indiana to come to the Superior Van & Mobility store in Fishers.

It was a great occasion – the handing of the keys to the family’s accessible van. The process began nearly a year prior when Kim submitted an application to MDFF during the application window for the 2025 Accessible Van Giveaway cycle. She had submitted an application to be considered to receive an accessible van a few years ago. She was not selected during that cycle, and discouragement set-in. MDFF receives many more applications than we can award vans, so often families apply for a few years before they are chosen. Kim was encouraged to try again with MDFF so she submitted her application. Now, she has her own gently-used, but new to her and in great condition, accessible van!

A couple of days after Kim received her van, she sent us a heartfelt note of gratitude, “I feel like I’m living in a dream. I still can’t believe this van is ours. I just went to the chiropractor and didn’t have to duck my head to get in the door. It makes me want to cry. I can’t even describe my gratitude. Please tell the board, the donors, the dealership and anyone else that had anything to do with yesterday and making this dream a reality for us thank you. It’s a day we will never forget.”
