A 2026 Accessible Van Giveaway Recipient – Weston’s Story
On a warm September evening, MDFF staff, board members, and supporters gathered to make a difference in someone’s life at the Mobility Gala: Retro Rewind. Weston and his parents traveled from their home off the beaten path in northern, Indiana to come to the gala to receive the keys to their new accessible van.
It was a great occasion – the handing of the keys to the family’s accessible van. The process began several months prior when Weston and his family submitted an application to MDFF during the application window for the 2026 Accessible Van Giveaway cycle. MDFF receives many more applications than we can award vans, so often families apply for a few years before they are chosen. This year, we received a record number of 27 van applications – the most we have ever received in the ten years the program has operated.
From Weston’s father in their application as to how an accessible van would make a tremendous difference in their lives, “Weston and our family are very active with lots going on including all of his doctor’s appointments, therapy appointments, play dates, school band, scouting, community service, beach days and everything in-between….we have only ever had outside lifts and I could only imagine the ease of having a proper accessible van for my son….an accessible van would be so amazing for our family, for Weston’s everyday adventures and active lifestyle . He would be so appreciative, our entire family would be . He loves to live his life to the fullest no matter where that takes him!”
